The Problem
85% of US homes have hard water. Your shower could be responsible.
Dullness, dryness, frizz, and faster color fade can be worse with hard water buildup.
Hard water can leave skin feeling tight, itchy, or harder to moisturize after showering.
Products can feel like they do not rinse cleanly, so you use more shampoo, conditioner, and body wash than you want to.

After: Soft Water Results
How It Works
True ion exchange technology for your shower, not a filter.
Threads onto your existing shower pipe. No tools. No plumber. No landlord approval needed.
Resin beads swap calcium and magnesium (hard) for sodium (soft). Your water transforms instantly.
Softer feeling hair and skin, plus products that rinse cleaner. Results vary by water hardness and routine.

Ion exchange is the same proven technology used in $5,000+ whole house water softeners. We've miniaturized it for your shower.
Inside ShowerSoft, thousands of tiny resin beads are preloaded with sodium ions (Na+). When hard water flows through, calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions swap places with the sodium.
The hardness minerals get trapped in the resin. The sodium enters your water. Result? Soft water that's gentle on your hair and skin.
Factory performance testing indicates meaningful hardness reduction. Independent third party testing is planned.

Our Story
"I moved to Phoenix. Within weeks, my hair started falling out in clumps."
I tried everything. Expensive salon treatments. Clarifying shampoos. Those $35 to 165 "shower filters" on Amazon. Nothing worked.
Then I learned the truth: shower filters don't soften water. Many remove chlorine and sediment, but they are not designed to reduce calcium and magnesium. That requires ion exchange technology.
I searched Amazon for a true shower water softener. Nothing existed. The only option was competitors priced around $339, sold direct to consumer. There was a massive gap.
So I created ShowerSoft. Real ion exchange technology. Same science as $5,000 whole house systems. Portable. Easy to install. Priced well below competitors. Available on Amazon.
No plumber needed. No permanent installation. Install in 5 minutes. Get salon quality results at home.
Your Soft Water Guide
The transition from hard to soft water is real. Here's what happens week by week.
After years of hard water, your hair and skin have adapted. Your scalp overproduces oil to fight the stripping effect. Your hair is coated in invisible calcium deposits. When you switch, your body needs 2 to 4 weeks to recalibrate.
Almost nobody talks about this honestly, which is one of the biggest reasons people return water softeners too early. What follows is completely normal.
The Immediate Difference
The Adjustment Begins
The Shedding Phase
Recalibration
Dramatically softer, shinier, less breakage. "Salon hair" every day.
Clearer, smoother, more hydrated. Acid mantle fully recovered.
Everything works better. ~50% less shampoo, conditioner, body wash.
Less product + fewer salon visits = hundreds saved per year.
Hard water contains copper, iron, and manganese that chemically break down hair dye. Color fades in 2 to 3 weeks instead of 4 to 8 weeks.
The money math: Color every 4 to 6 weeks ($150 to 250/visit) stretches to 8 to 12 weeks with soft water. That's $500 to 1,500+ saved per year on salon visits alone.
We want to be transparent, because this matters.
There's a well-documented association between hard water and eczema prevalence. Hard water disrupts the skin barrier and increases irritant deposition.
However, the largest clinical trial (SWET, 336 children) found no statistically significant objective improvement in established eczema from softening alone, though families reported meaningful quality-of-life improvements.
Our honest take: Soft water removes a known irritant. Many users report improvements. But we will not promise it cures eczema. The evidence does not support that. It is worth trying as part of your care strategy, not as a replacement for your dermatologist.

Setup
Simple setup. Easy maintenance. Beautiful results.
Important notes
Option A
Single element setup
Simplest install. Great for most showers.
Option B
Dual element setup
More capacity and more time between regeneration.
Find the water flow indicator on the wall mount adapter. Connect the large hose to your shower arm, then connect the other end to the wall mount adapter.
Mount the wall mount adapter on the wall using the adhesive hooks (dry surface). Make sure the hose is not kinked.
Connect the outlet of the wall mount adapter to your shower head hose.
Insert the filter element into the wall mount adapter and rotate clockwise to lock.
Turn on the water slowly and check for leaks. If you see a leak, add Teflon tape to the leaking connection and retighten.
Follow steps 1 and 2 above for the first element, then continue.
Connect the small hose from the outlet of the first wall mount adapter to the inlet of the second wall mount adapter.
Install the second wall mount adapter with adhesive hooks (dry surface). Make sure both hoses are not kinked.
Connect the outlet of the second wall mount adapter to your shower head hose.
Insert both filter elements into the wall mount adapters and rotate clockwise to lock.
Turn on the water slowly and check for leaks. If you see a leak, add Teflon tape to the leaking connection and retighten.
Most installs take about 5 minutes once you pick a mounting spot.

Attach the pump to the regeneration adapter, then attach the filter element and rotate to lock.
Place the pump at the bottom of the brine tank and press the suction cups firmly. Make sure the white drain hose is outside the tank and drains to a safe location.
Add 500g (about 2 cups) of table salt, then fill the tank with water to about 80% full. Stir or wait 5 minutes.
Plug in the pump and run the regeneration cycle (about 30 minutes). The tank will be empty when complete.
Remove the filter, rinse the pump with fresh water to prevent salt buildup, then reinstall the filter.
Before showering, run the water for 3 to 5 minutes to flush any remaining salt water.
Tip: Do not skip the 3 to 5 minute flush after regeneration.

If you want a baseline, inexpensive hardness test strips are available online (not included).
Soft water lathers more easily, so you may need less shampoo and body wash.
Regenerate every 2 to 3 weeks for optimal performance.
FAQ
For a family of 4 showering daily, you'll regenerate every 2 to 3 weeks (~92 showers or 1,585 to 1,849 gallons). This depends on your water hardness and usage. With extremely hard water (>25 GPG), regenerate more frequently. The process takes 10 to 30 minutes and uses 500g of table salt.
Yes. Under 5 minutes. Unscrew your shower head, thread ShowerSoft on (hand tight), reattach your shower head. No tools, no plumber, no landlord approval. Works with standard 1/2" US shower pipes.
Many shower filters are designed to reduce chlorine, odors, and sediment. ShowerSoft is designed to reduce hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) using ion exchange, which is a different process. Filters can help with chlorine (results vary). ShowerSoft is not recommended if chlorine removal is your main goal.
Whole house systems can cost $1,500 to 5,000 plus professional installation and permanent plumbing modifications. ShowerSoft is built for renters and apartment setups. It is portable, installs quickly, and you can take it with you when you move.
Yes. No permanent modifications. It threads onto your shower pipe like a regular shower head. When you move, you can unscrew it and take it with you.
Ion exchange works by swapping hardness minerals for sodium ions. For typical use, the added sodium is small, and you are not drinking shower water. If you have a sodium sensitive medical condition, ask your clinician what is appropriate for you.
The ion exchange resin material used inside ShowerSoft is certified to NSF/ANSI 61, 372, and 44 (Certificate #C0639341). We also provide the resin manufacturer certificate on file. These certificates apply to the resin material, not the assembled ShowerSoft product.
